about

Martha Scanlan joins Trevor and I here for a tribute to the late Ralph Blizzard and his surviving wife Mildred. Ralph inspired the three of us and countless others with his improvisational long bow fiddle ans sweet gentle nature." Florida Blues" was a favorite of Ralph's.
Trevor and I were about 14 when we first heard Ralph and the boys, Gordy Hinners and Phil Jamison, at Fiddler's Grove. I remember walking through the campground late at night or early morning and being drawn to fiery fiddle music coming from behind a 70's model black Ford truck with a slide-on camper. As I got closer I could hear the bubbling tar banjo and the freight train guitar accompanying a fiddler that sounded wild, lonesome, happy and blue all in a passing phrase.
